Is a gas instant geyser safe in a bathroom?
Only with proper permanent ventilation, and often it is not. These units consume room air and produce carbon monoxide, and a sealed bathroom gives that nowhere to go. It is the single most dangerous installation we come across. We will assess your specific installation and tell you plainly if it needs to move.
Why will my gas geyser not ignite?
On battery ignition models, flat batteries are the most common cause by a distance. After that it is inadequate water flow to trigger the valve, a worn water diaphragm, a blocked burner jet or a spent gas cylinder. All are quick to check in sequence.
The flame lights and goes straight out. What is that?
The flame failure device is not sensing the flame and is shutting off the gas, which is exactly what it is designed to do. A sooted or misaligned sensor is the usual cause. It is also sometimes triggered by poor ventilation starving the flame — which is a much more serious finding.
How often should a gas instant geyser be serviced?
Once a year without fail, and more often if you notice any yellow in the flame. The service covers burner cleaning, jet clearing, flame sensor checking, gas hose and regulator inspection and a full ventilation assessment. On a gas appliance that schedule is a safety measure, not maintenance.
How often should a geyser be serviced?
Once a year, ideally just before winter. On hard water we would say every eight to ten months. That service is mostly descaling the tank and element, checking the thermostat and cut-out, and testing the earth and the pressure relief valve — it is what stops the expensive failures happening.
