Is the fault worth repairing on an older appliance?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If the repair cost approaches a meaningful share of what a replacement would cost, or the manufacturer no longer supplies the part, we will tell you that during the diagnosis so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
Sound works but the screen is black. Is the TV finished?
Almost certainly not. That is the classic backlight failure — the panel is producing the picture but nothing is lighting it. Shine a torch on the dark screen at an angle and you will faintly see the image. Backlight strips are a routine, sensibly priced repair.
Can individual backlight strips be replaced?
On most panels yes, and that is what we do rather than replacing the entire assembly. Where a panel is designed so the strips cannot be separated, we tell you that up front, because it changes the cost significantly and you should know before agreeing.
My TV clicks but will not switch on. Is it repairable?
Usually yes. Repeated clicking with no start is the power supply board going into protection, and it is most often swollen capacitors on the SMPS. It is one of the more common and more economic TV repairs, and it does not touch the panel at all.
