How do I know if my front load bearings have failed?
Two tests. Spin the empty drum by hand and listen for a rumble, then take hold of the drum at the door and try to move it up and down. Noticeable play with a rumbling noise on spin means the bearings are going. Catching it early keeps the shaft and drum serviceable.
Why does my front load machine smell?
Front loaders run low-temperature washes in a sealed drum, which suits the bacteria and mould that live in the door gasket and the detergent drawer. Too much detergent makes it worse. Wipe the gasket dry, leave the door ajar between washes, and run a monthly empty hot cycle.
Water is leaking from the door. Is the gasket the problem?
Usually, yes — a split or perished door boot is the most common cause, and it is a straightforward replacement. It can also be a foreign object caught in the seal, or a machine so heavily overfilled with detergent that the foam simply pushes past the gasket.
What lives in the drain filter?
Coins, buttons, hair clips, safety pins and a surprising quantity of lint. Every front load machine has this filter behind a small door at the bottom of the front panel, and it should be cleared every couple of months. Most drain faults we attend are nothing more than a blocked filter.
Can hard water damage a washing machine?
Yes. Mineral scale settles on the heating element and drum, making the machine work harder and shortening element life. A monthly hot wash with a descaler helps. If scaling caused your fault we will show you the evidence on the removed part.
